Great staff and great care for my dog. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the visit went smoothly. The only thing I didn't love was that we discussed pricing for additional services before the veterinarian had seen my dog. I don't mind talking about costs, but I would have preferred for the doctor to evaluate my dog first and then discuss recommendations and pricing. Overall, it was a very positive experience.

We recently brought our dog to ProK9 for a fertility test, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. The staff took such great care of our dog and made sure we felt comfortable and informed throughout the entire process. The facility itself was very clean, organized, and well-maintained, which immediately gave us confidence in the level of care they provide. It was clear that the team genuinely cares about the animals they work with and takes pride in what they do. We truly appreciated the kindness, attention, and expertise shown by everyone at ProK9. If you're looking for a place that provides excellent care and outstanding customer service, I highly recommend ProK9. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely return in the future.

We were referred to ProK9 by a friend, and from the very first day, we knew we had found something special. I honestly can’t put into words how grateful we are for their kindness, honesty, and the genuine care they show. When one of our babies became seriously ill, we were scared and overwhelmed—but they didn’t hesitate for a second to help us. They made time immediately, welcomed him in, and treated him like he was one of their own. They carefully assessed his condition and recommended an overnight stay. That one night turned into two, which was so hard for us, but they made it a little easier by keeping us updated every step of the way. Knowing he was in such caring, capable hands gave us so much comfort during a really difficult time. We will always be thankful for the compassion and dedication they showed our family. I can not express how much gratitude I have for Dr. Patricia Gross and her staff. Thank you again team for taking care of my bubbies.

Pet Parasite Control FAQs

Parasite prevention is an important part of routine veterinary care for dogs and cats. The answers below address common questions about flea, tick, heartworm, and intestinal parasite control at Pro K9 Veterinarian in Richmond, Texas.

Why is year-round parasite prevention recommended in Richmond, TX?

Richmond’s warm climate allows mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks to remain active during much of the year. Because of this, veterinarians typically recommend year-round parasite prevention for dogs and cats. At Pro K9 Veterinarian, consistent preventive care helps reduce the risk of heartworm disease, tick-borne illnesses, and flea infestations.

What parasites commonly affect dogs and cats in Texas?

Pets in Texas commonly face risks from fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms. These parasites can cause discomfort, illness, and sometimes serious health problems. Our veterinary team helps pet owners choose prevention strategies that reduce these risks and keep pets healthier year-round.

How do veterinarians test for heartworms?

Heartworm testing is typically performed using a simple blood test that detects infection before serious symptoms develop. At Pro K9 Veterinarian in Richmond, TX, dogs are usually tested annually as part of preventive care. Early detection allows veterinarians to begin treatment sooner and helps prevent long-term heart and lung damage.

Can indoor pets still get parasites?

Yes, even pets that spend most of their time indoors can be exposed to parasites. Fleas and ticks can enter homes on clothing or other animals, and mosquitoes carrying heartworm disease can still reach indoor pets. Preventive medications recommended by your veterinarian help reduce these risks.

How do I know which parasite prevention is best for my pet?

The best parasite prevention depends on your pet’s lifestyle, age, and exposure risk. During a preventive care visit, the veterinary team at Pro K9 Veterinarian evaluates these factors and recommends medications designed to protect your dog or cat from common parasites in the Richmond area.

What to Expect From Parasite Prevention Visits

Parasite prevention visits typically include screening tests, preventive medication recommendations, and guidance on protecting your pet throughout the year. Your veterinarian may perform a heartworm test, check for signs of flea or tick exposure, and discuss intestinal parasite risks. These visits help ensure your pet receives appropriate protection based on their environment and daily activities.

Comprehensive Parasite Protection for Dogs and Cats

Effective parasite control involves more than treating infections after they occur. At Pro K9 Veterinarian, prevention strategies are designed to protect pets from the parasites most commonly found in the Richmond area. Our veterinary team helps pet owners choose safe and effective prevention methods suited to their pet’s daily environment.
