Laboratory Testing

When Something's Off, Answers Matter

You know your pet better than anyone. Maybe they’re not eating like they used to, or they seem a little more tired than normal. Maybe it’s something you can’t quite put your finger on, but something just doesn’t feel right. That instinct matters, and getting to the bottom of it quickly is what our veterinary diagnostic services are all about.

At ProK9 Veterinarian in Richmond, TX, we don’t guess. We use advanced pet diagnostic testing to find real answers, so we can build a treatment plan that actually works. Whether it’s a routine wellness screen or an urgent concern, our diagnostic team is here to give you clarity and give your pet the care they deserve.

In-House Veterinary Lab Testing

Speed saves lives, and it saves you from the anxiety of waiting days for results. Our clinic is equipped with in-house veterinary lab testing capabilities, which means many of your pet’s results are ready the same day, sometimes within minutes.

Our laboratory services cover a wide range of analyses, including blood work, urine, fecal samples, and tissue evaluation. These tests play a critical role in almost every stage of your pet’s care:

  • Wellness screenings that catch early warning signs before your pet ever shows symptoms
  • Pre-surgical evaluations to confirm your pet is safe to undergo anesthesia
  • Illness diagnosis to pinpoint exactly what’s causing discomfort, lethargy, vomiting, or other symptoms
  • Ongoing monitoring to track how your pet is responding to treatment or how a chronic condition is progressing

Common tests we run include complete blood counts (CBC), serum chemistry panels, urinalysis, thyroid testing, parasite screening, and cytology. If specialized analysis is needed, we also partner with trusted external laboratories to make sure nothing gets missed.

Veterinary Ultrasound Imaging and Digital X-Rays

Sometimes we need to see what’s happening inside your pet’s body without making an incision. That’s when we turn to diagnostic imaging.

Our digital radiography (X-ray) technology produces high-resolution images of bones, joints, the chest, and abdomen. It’s one of the fastest ways to identify fractures, foreign objects, heart and lung conditions, arthritis, and certain masses or tumors.

For a closer look at soft tissue, we turn to veterinary ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time pictures of organs like the heart, liver, kidneys, spleen, and bladder. It’s completely non-invasive and incredibly valuable for evaluating organ structure, detecting fluid buildup, guiding biopsies, and monitoring pregnancies. Our veterinarians, including Dr. Kiera Sweetenberg, who focuses on reproduction and surgery, relies on ultrasound regularly as part of their diagnostic approach.

Why Accurate Diagnostics Matter

Here’s the truth: treatment is only as good as the diagnosis behind it. A pet who’s vomiting could be dealing with anything from a dietary issue to a serious organ problem. Without the right testing, you’re treating symptoms instead of causes, and that’s not how we do things at ProK9 Veterinarian.

Our team, backed by over 30 years of combined experience, uses every tool at our disposal to understand what’s really going on with your pet. We’ll walk you through the results, explain what they mean in plain language, and work with you on next steps. No jargon, no rushing, no confusion.
